New York, NY -- This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the first formal meeting of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) in New York, and the first major event of this milestone year kicks off just one month from now, with AES Amsterdam, the 124th AES Convention. The annual AES European Pro Audio Expo and Convention will take place at the Amsterdam RAI Center from May 17-20, with exhibits and extensive technical program presented under the banner theme, "New Horizons In Audio."

The AES has come a long way since its formation in 1948, and its first technology expo and convention in New York City in 1949. The industry-shaping effect of the annual AES exhibition in the U.S. throughout the 1950s-60s mobilized the European pro audio community to organize in a Central European Section of the AES, presenting the first European Convention in Cologne in 1971. This event, with 210 participants and 12 exhibitors, marked the beginning of annual Conventions on both sides of the Atlantic. Since then, the AES membership of leading engineers, scientists and other authorities has increased dramatically, growing to more than 14,000 members and 169 sections in 28 countries worldwide, with the Conventions becoming truly must-attend events in both the U.S. and Europe.

The Convention programs have evolved into complex and wide ranging events, covering the whole gamut of pro audio topics with technical sessions and user seminars. Through its exhibition and technical program, and central European location in Amsterdam, the 124th AES Convention will attract the leading manufacturers, facility managers, end-users and audio enthusiasts from around the world.

The Amsterdam RAI complex is located in the business district just south of center city. Visit www.aes.org/124 for details on the extensive technical program planned for this year's European Convention, as well as to register and obtain information on hotels and transportation.
