Amsterdam -- For the past few years, as the demand for high-quality sound reinforcement has not only endured with a strong touring business, but also increased with new opportunities in the corporate and house-of-worship markets, the AES Convention Committees have built more and more live sound-oriented events and workshops into their technical programs. Live sound will again be a focus of the upcoming 124th AES Convention in Amsterdam, where a special workshop series will cover all the ins and outs of live sound engineering.

This year's Live Sound workshop program has been created by Eberhard Müller (Neumann & Müller), Jürgen Wilhelm (Yamaha), Gregor Zielinsky (Sennheiser) and Ralf Zuleeg (d&b) to cover practical issues encountered by live sound engineers in their daily work. The three-day workshop series, which will run from Saturday, May 18  Monday, May 20, has been designed for the edification of both entry-level and experienced live sound engineers. The entire program will take place in its own large room within the Amsterdam RAI Convention Center.

The first day of the series will feature presentations--with practical examples--on "Demystifying Audio," "Line Arrays," and "Mixing Consoles," while days two and three will provide a more hands-on experience. The "Live Mixing Workshop" will focus on playback sound quality for specific instruments, with a team of experienced presenters sharing tips and tricks on how to get a great drum sound, a loud enough piano, and a high-quality guitar sound. On Monday, the two-part, full-day series, "From Rider To Show, Part 1: Logistics" and "Part 2: Live Mixing Event" gives the big-picture lesson, from how to choose the correct equipment within your budget, to stage setup and calibration, sound-check, and finally, the live mix.
